Meanwhile, as we move into election crunch time for the competing candidates and voters up and down the country, 60M Politics page views fell by -1% week-on-week. Despite having fallen in recent weeks, depth of engagement has continued to increase, with readers consuming over 11 articles on average per week.

Without a ball even having been hit yet, this news, along with ongoing coverage of Nadal’s absence from this year’s tournament, drove nearly 3M page views, the highest weekly total for tennis in 2024.

Julian Assange’s return home to Canberra after a 14-year legal battle also added to a burgeoning news cycle. Despite already having driven a yearly high for News & Politics engagement in June, page views still increased +5% versus the week previous, with Criminal Law specifically up +4%.

Two of the year’s biggest events – Glastonbury and London Pride – hit the headlines this week, with significant coverage of both driving huge page view growth week-on-week. Events & Attractions overall grew +19%, with Festivals and LGBTQ+ engagement up +100% and +95% respectively.
UK Election 2024

In the final full week before Polling Day, Election coverage was filled with further news of party betting – this time a headache for Labour and Kevin Craig – the fall out from the third and final debate, and Nigel Farage’s Question Time grilling.

Frequency of Election engagement – calculated by average number of page views per unique reader – has increased every week since the Election was called. Last week average weekly frequency of Elections coverage was 6.6 and as high as 11.3 on Politics.

Bloomberg’s poll of polls reported further decline for the Conservatives and a future Labour government looks to be an almost certainty. As such, attention has turned to the size of Labour’s majority, with YouGov reporting that one in five Conservative voters will vote tactically, with potential big wins for the minor parties.

Whilst Ed Davey seized the opportunity to urge voters to take a leap of faith on the Liberal Democrats through his favorite medium of stunts, Reform UK became embroiled in a racism row that dominated much of last week’s election coverage and drove huge growth in the party’s share of negative sentiment (+13% WoW).

As we enter the final week of campaigning the core issues of this election have emerged.

Immigration has seen massive growth in engagement since the campaign launch. Across Ozone’s publishers there has been a +381% increase in weekly page views, and significant indexing (i294-i417) for all age groups.

The climate conversation has also been an important issue, but despite great interest from the public, with indexes ranging from i125 – i242, there has been little and declining climate coverage as a result of minimal differences between the policies of the two biggest parties.
