Reading the Nation: The 7 days to Sunday 4th of July

Thanks to our reach of over 99% of the UK’s online population, Ozone’s single user view of content consumption provides unrivalled insights to the stories that matter to our readers all across the UK.

This week's Reading the Nation: the 7 days to 4th July once again focuses on the ongoing excitement from this much welcomed Summer of Sport, with England’s journey through Euro2020, the return of Wimbledon fortnight, and the lycra-clad road race that is the Tour de France driving content consumption.

Elsewhere, the shift into July saw the official start of summer and a huge leap in Home & Garden consumption with page views increasing +35% week on week. Gardening content accounted for one-third of all page views as green-fingered readers shared outdoor transformations and gardening hacks.

In the 7 days to Sunday 7th July we saw:

  • Euro2020 and football content accounting for 70% of all sports consumption - up +19% on last week’s above-average figures. With this rate of growth equal to the category overall, it’s clear that Ozone readers are equally thrilled by the excitement of other sports beyond football.

  • The return of Wimbledon fortnight saw a +369% growth in Tennis page views up from 961k last week to 4.5m this week. With GB’s Emma Raducanu storming into Week Two of the Championship, we expect interest to remain high.

  • Finally, this week demonstrated the power of home nation involvement in creating even greater peaks for Sports content. For example, Saturday’s thrashing of Ukraine by the England squad helped increase daily traffic by +25% on the previous day.
