A climate awakening in reading the nation (w.e. 15th Aug)

Thanks to our reach of over 99% of the UK’s online population, Ozone’s single user view of content consumption provides unrivalled insights to the stories that matter to our readers all across the UK.

This week's Reading the Nation: the 7 days to 15th August focuses on our science and environment content as interest in the category intensified with the publication of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, which issued a stark ‘code red for humanity’ about climate change.

Among the notable category insights, we have seen:

  • Daily science and environment page views grow +35% on Monday 9th August - the day the IPCC report was published - with Ozone publishers dedicating high-impact editorial to it

  • Previously, interest in sustainability-related content piques around key events. In the build up to and immediately after June’s sustainability focused G7 summit, 9.0m average weekly science and environment page views was +16% higher vs. the prior 2-week average

  • Weekly engagement with our science and environment content and its overall readership grew by almost a quarter (+24%) when flash flooding hit the UK - including many parts of London - in July
