Ozone and AMG talk the digital diversity dividend

Ozone and Asian Media Group, our latest publisher partner, came together at Mindshare Huddle to discuss the digital diversity dividend

On Thursday the 15th of September, Mindshare hosted Ozone and the Asian Media Group (AMG) at its annual Mindshare Huddle event. The event aimed to bring media owners and trade bodies together for a day of insight and entertainment. In addition, all of their advertiser clients were invited to join them on the day.

There were two broad tracks to the day – Huddle being centred on thought leadership sessions, with Off Huddle being a variety of fun and engaging activities by different media owners. Ozone and AMG’s purpose was to run a Huddle thought leadership session, focusing on how advertisers can support publishers of all shapes and sizes – in particular those channels that are critical pillars for individual communities and offer a greater reach of diverse audiences.

Our CRO Craig Tuck and Business Development Director Dipti Patel represented Ozone and asked a series of insightful questions to Kalpesh Solanki, CEO and Group Managing Editor of AMG, and Rithika Siddhartham, Editor of the Eastern Eye.

Kalpesh started with giving a personal reflection back to 1968 when his father founded AMG. A man who created a company that worked to bridge the gap between minority communities and the rest of the nation in many different aspects. He mentioned that a grocer like Tesco at the time stocked few products that would appeal to minority communities, however today that's completely changed. Unfortunately, many of the societal issues that marked the times are still prevalent today.

Rithika then steered the conversation back to the present and spoke about the covid crisis, talking about how AMG titles were engaged with the government during covid to get the message to underserved communities about the disease and how it could be avoided, managed and with vaccine information. Furthermore, these communities tended to be multi-generational families and mostly included front line workers, including healthcare professionals and independent retailers, who had to stay open and work during lockdown. The messaging from the government via AMG to these communities would be very different to the national news media.

Dipti began by talking about Ozone’s growing relationship with AMG and how our technology is being harnessed by the publisher. This includes AMG’s access to Ozone’s Biddable Management service allows publishers of all shapes and sizes to take full advantage of our tech stack and expertise to drive maximum revenue.

Dipti also highlighted a good point that aside from the fact that AMG provides important information to minority groups, the familiarity of the AMG titles to second and third generation immigrants is very special, as they would have been read by parents and grandparents born overseas but settling in the UK in the household. The titles also featured content not covered by mainstream news outlets such as Bollywood films and celebrities.

Overall, the event underlined how Ozone and our services help to provide a sustainable platform to support the great work that AMG do for the communities served by its titles.
